چکیده

The first clinical trials of stem cell (SC) treatment for cardiac disease in humans, using autologous bone marrow cell transplantation in patients with severe chronic heart failure (HF), were reported in 2002 (using the intracoronary injection route) and in 2003 (using the intramyocardial injection route). Since those initial reports, numerous additional clinical SC trials have been conducted in the treatment of cardiac disease, with approximately 30 trials under way in the United States in 2012. In addition to bone marrow–derived hematopoietic SCs, subsequent clinical trials have used mesenchymal SCs, endothelial progenitor cells, skeletal myoblasts, induced pluripotent SCs (and derivatives), and cardiac-resident SCs. Currently, the 3 main indications for SC treatment in patients with heart disease are chronic ischemic HF, acute myocardial infarction, and idiopathic dilated cardiomyopathy. On the basis of trials over the past decade, “cell herapy may transform the treatment of acute and chronic eart disease, with an anticipated impact rivaling the results

Challenges for treatment of cardiovascular diseases based on stem cells

Introduction: Cardiovascular diseases (CVD) are the primary cause of death worldwide, and the development of scar tissue in myocardium and also the irreversible destruction of cardiomyocytes are the main factors in their development. There are still limitations in medical treatment of CVD, despite the advances in the field of drug therapy and surgery for CVD. In recent years, research on stem c...

Recent Technological Advances in Hepatogenic Differentiation of Stem Cells Relevant to Treatment of Liver Diseases

Liver failure, in an acute or chronic form, is a growing health problem ranking as one of the leading causes of death worldwide. Inborn errors of metabolism characterized by defects in hepatic enzymes or other proteins with metabolic functions, such as receptors or transporters accompanied with environmental factors involve etiology and presentation of liver failure. Currently, the only establi...

Cell Therapy in Cardiovascular Disease

Recently, cell therapy has sparked a revolution in ischemic heart disease that will in the future help clinicians to cure patients. Earlier investigations in animal models and clinical trials have suggested that positive paracrine effects such as neoangiogenesis and anti-apoptotic can improve myocardial function. In this regard the Royan cell therapy center designed a few trials in collaborat...

Onm-19: The Role of Cord Blood Preservationin Cell Therapy

s:3604:"During pregnancy, the placenta delivers "cord blood" to the baby through the umbilical cord serving as a lifeline of nourishment from the mother to baby. At birth, "cord blood" remains in the umbilical cord and placenta and until recently, had typically been discarded. The tragedy of this practice is that "cord blood" contains very special cells called "stem cells". Recent advances in m...
